An update from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Argentine legend will not decide his future in the upcoming weeks.

We don’t expect any announcements or changes on Messi’s part until after the World Cup in Qatar, according to sources close to the situation.

It has also been reported that the 35-year-old would wait until 2023 before making a decision, despite the Parisians’ declared intention to give him a new contract and Barcelona’s expressed interest in re-signing him.

The previous club president Josep Maria Bartomeu was responsible for the poor mismanagement of a wide variety of issues behind the scenes at Barcelona; nonetheless, the manipulation of the club’s finances is possibly the most egregious example of his incompetence.

The fact that this was the only basis for the team’s decision to release Messi, the highest-paid player at the club at the time, ultimately led to the termination of his contract.

Despite the fact that the graduate of La Masia was prepared to accept a wage reduction and that he was eager to continue his untouchable legacy at Camp Nou, the club was badly governed to the degree that a love affair that had lasted for the ages had to come to an unpleasant end.

Nevertheless, the current president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has been candid about the prospect that Messi would one day return to the club.

Even if only time will tell whether the transfer goes through or not, it seems like Lionel Messi’s primary objective at this point is to excel for both his club and his nation.
