Lionel Messi’s goal puts PSG back on top of the Ligue 1 table, breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.

With an early goal from Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Lyon 1-0 on Sunday to assure their place at the top of the Ligue 1 standings, just over Marseille.

Messi scored in the fifth minute to give PSG their fourth straight Ligue 1 victory and push his career total to 671 goals (no penalties).

Neymar sent up his seventh assist in eight Ligue 1 outings by setting up the Argentine striker.

With this win, PSG moved two points ahead of  Marseille, who had earlier tied with Rennes at home, 1-1.

After beating Auxerre 3-1, Lorient is now three points behind the league’s top team.

After a goalless draw at Nantes, Lens found themselves in 4th place, four points behind the league leaders.

Even if PSG have been less brilliant as of late, they were still the better team at the Groupama Stadium. PSG have won nine and drawn one of their 10 games across all competitions.
