It seems that Chelsea had spies at Bayer Leverkusen’s excellent Champions League triumph against Atletico Madrid for reasons other than to check in on Callum’s development.
Diaby lined up on the Blues’ opposite wing to loanee Callum Hudson-Odoi, and the Blues were reportedly present to check on both players.
In spite of a rough start to the Bundesliga season, Gerardo Seoane’s team stunned many with a full effort against Atletico, with Diaby scoring the game’s second goal.
The 23-year-old lost his spot on Didier Deschamps’ France team for the September internationals, but he has undeniable pedigree after scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists in the 2021/2022 season.
Apparently, there were also representatives from Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Newcastle United at the BayArena.
After a winless start to the new football season, Leverkusen are now ranked 15th in the Bundesliga.
