After signing Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen, Barcelona might chase Jorginho next summer.
According to the Mirror, Barcelona is mulling a deal for Jorginho to replace Sergio Busquets.
Busquets is in the final year of his Blaugrana deal and has eyes on the MLS. Even if he stays another year, the club captain will be 35 by next season, therefore the Catalans must replace him.
Barça is considering many candidates, including Ruben Neves and Martin Zubimendi of Wolves. La Liga leaders are seriously contemplating Jorginho as a replacement for their skipper.
The Italian international joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2018 and has been a mainstay since, winning the Europa League, Champions League, and other championships with the London club.
Jorginho was a key member of Italy’s UEFA Euro 2020-winning side. The story says Barcelona sees him as a feasible possibility to replace Busquets since he ticks numerous boxes for Xavi’s team.
His availability on a Bosman deal next summer makes Jorginho even more intriguing. A contract extension with Chelsea can’t be ruled out at this time, but it will rely on incoming manager Graham Potter’s vision.
The Catalans signed Christensen and Alonso on Bosman agreements last summer and tried to obtain Cesar Azpilicueta. And Jorginho might be next to leave Stamford Bridge.
