This season, Real Madrid has yet to lose a game, going undefeated in La Liga, the Champions League, and the Super Cup despite dealing with a number of injuries and a lack of depth in their roster. This Sunday, though, they will face their rivals Atletico Madrid in the season’s first Madrid derby, so that claim will be put to the test.
While Real Madrid has gotten off to a fantastic start to the season, Atletico Madrid has struggled to even get off the ground. They are now 7th in La Liga and suffered a 2-0 defeat to a Bayer Leverkusen team that is currently in the relegation zone of the Bundesliga this past week in the Champions League.
It’s predicted that both teams’ recent form will be thrown out the window for the Madrid Derby, which might result in a competitive game.
The fact that Diego Simeone has announced that Jan Oblak will start in goal for Atletico Madrid versus Real Madrid is a huge boost for the team.
Atletico Madrid will start Oblak against Real Madrid after he was left off the roster for the team’s games against Celta Vigo and Bayer Leverkusen.
For a team that has relied heavily on Oblak for years, this is fantastic news, even if he hasn’t quite lived up to his usual standards in the 2021/22 season.
But Real Madrid’s Eder Militao appears to have made a full recovery and will be available for selection. Karim Benzema will likely miss this game and return after the international break.
