Manager

Hansi Flick has managed to revive the German squad after a couple of years of down form with long time manager Joachim Low. Part of this is due to his background: Flick was not only Low’s assistant for a certain stage of his stint as head coach, thus getting to know a lot of these players, but he also won every possible trophy with Bayern Munich a couple of years ago and that allowed him to build a connection and rapport with the core of the national team that plays there.

As most people know, Flick likes to attack, likes to press high and his teams are usually very athletic, so is going to be interesting to see how that physical demand plays out in a tournament that is taking place in November.

Main Players

Germany is always known for the balance in their squad and this time is no different. While some players such as goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller are the most experienced in this squad, there is a very nice mix of young talent and world class footballers that are in their peak years.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Karim Adeyemi and Youssoufa Moukoko are some of the top class talents that Germany are going to be taken to Qatar while there are footballers such as Leroy Sane, Leon Goretzka or Joshua Kimmich who are participating in this tournament while being in their peak years. It is a very healthy balance with a lot of players that have a lot of experience in the upper echelons of football.

Also, barring a few additions, the vast majority of these players have a lot of experience playing together, with chemistry being a very important when it comes to international tournaments, and this is an area where the Germans usually excel at.

Prediction

As mentioned earlier, you cannot ignore the Germans when it comes to the World Cup. They are usually one of the most competitive sides in the competition, and the often have the quality in the squad to back that up, which is something worth taking into account. This time is no different.

Japan, Spain and Costa Rica is a very accessible group for Germany. In theory, they shouldn’t have any issues bypassing this stage of the competition and they have a very healthy mix of youth, experience and players in their peak to go very far in the competition, plus a very good manager in Hansi Flick.

They are definitely one of the candidates to win the competition.
