Ousmane Dembele is heading to Paris Saint Germain

FC Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is set to sign for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain. The former Borussia Dortmund player has agreed to personal terms with the French giants, and now both clubs need to reach a final agreement on the fee to make the deal happen.

Dembele’s time at Barcelona has been plagued with inconsistencies. The Frenchman was signed from Borussia Dortmund in August 2017 for a €105 million fee and was viewed as the natural replacement for Neymar Jr., who had left that same summer for PSG.

However, despite having a lot of excitement for what Dembele could do, the reality is that he never got fully going with the club. Injuries and a lack of consistency when playing led to him becoming more of an unwanted asset during certain periods of his time at Camp Nou. And despite finding his best form with manager Xavi Hernandez in recent times, injuries were once again taking a toll on him.

Therefore, it makes sense for all parties involved to cut their losses. Dembele could get a fresh start by going back to his country, and Barcelona could use the funds to strengthen themselves in key areas.

There is still a need for both sides to come to an agreement. What has changed, though, is that Barcelona are now interested in selling the Frenchman and using that money to sign players in other positions, with Manchester City’s right-back Joao Cancelo being discussed.

Dembele has been offered a five-year contract by PSG that would make him earn €20 million per year. Considering the exit of Lionel Messi to MLS side Inter Miami and the potential sale of star player Kylian Mbappe, the Parisian club is very much interested in getting a new forward to boost their attack

There is no denying that Ousmane Dembele’s time at FC Barcelona has been a disappointment. Both parties would probably agree with that statement as there were a lot of expectations bestowed upon the former Borussia Dortmund man that were simply not met. From Dembele’s perspective, he knows he hasn’t cemented himself as one of the best players in the world, so PSG is going to be a very big opportunity for him to prove his worth.
