It has been recently reported that Paris Saint Germain star, French forward Kylian Mbappé, could potentially leave this summer. This is because the Frenchman’s contract runs until 2024 and hasn’t shown a willingness to accept the option for an additional year, which has led to the situation where PSG could sell him this summer to cash in instead of allowing him to go for free next year.
This came as a shock because Mbappé had signed a new contract the previous summer, providing him with a lot of special benefits within the club, which kept him from moving to Real Madrid after a long-running saga. So, considering that, based on reports, PSG have put a 150 million euros price tag on the 2018 World Cup winner, where should he go next?
Let’s have a look at his options.
Real Madrid
The Spanish giants have been interested in Mbappé for years now. Ever since he became a worldwide phenomenon, Madrid have been interested in making him a part of their team, and considering that Karim Benzema has recently left, they are in need of more firepower in their attack.
While 150 million euros could make Mbappé a much more attainable target in the market, Madrid have already spent 100 million plus add-ons on Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, so that could cause some problems, budget-wise.
However, Madrid have the stature, resources, legacy, and quality to get the Frenchman and give him the platform to compete for the biggest trophies in the world.
Manchester United
While it doesn’t seem likely for United to sign the Frenchman right now, the potential sale of the club to Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim could make a major difference in this situation.
Jassim not only has the resources to make the signing possible, but he also has direct connections with the people at PSG, which is something that could play a huge role in this situation. And considering the historical value of Manchester United and the appeal of playing in the Premier League, this could be a very viable choice for Mbappé within that context.
Manchester City
The possibility of Manchester City hasn’t been brought up, but it seems like a logical scenario for the former AS Monaco man. City are currently the best team in the world, have won the treble, and they have a lot of world-class players and Pep Guardiola as their manager, so they have everything set for Mbappé to thrive there.
However, perhaps the one thing playing a role here would be Mbappé’s willingness to play next to Erling Haaland. After all, they both aim to become the best player in the world and them playing together could affect said goal, which is something that needs to be taken into account.
Paris Saint Germain
Mbappé is not going to be without his suitors in the market, but the possibility of staying at PSG another year and leaving as a free agent, with total control over his destiny, is also a very real scenario.
That way the Frenchman could plan his future with a bit more care and also not having to deal with any interference by his club. However, this depends greatly on what the player feels at the moment and the offers he is getting right now.
